Executive Bios
Dave E. Albert, MD :: Founder and Chief Medical Officer
David E. Albert, MD, an Oklahoma native, is a physician, inventor and serial entrepreneur who has developed medical and other life-saving technologies and products over the last 30 years, turning a number of those innovations into tech startups. Today, he is a founder of three technology companies, InnovAlarm, Lifetone Technology and AliveCor. His previous startups include Corazonix Corp (sold to Arrhythmia Research Technology) and Data Critical (sold to GE). Dr. Albert left GE in 2004 as Chief Scientist of GE Cardiology to disrupt several new markets.
His latest invention, AliveCor Mobile ECG, became a global sensation via a four-minute YouTube Video in January 2011 around the Consumer Electronics Show and was featured on ABC, CBS, CNN and Fox News among many other media outlets. Dr. Albert has 32 issued US patents, a large number pending and several new “secret inventions” in development. He has authored or co-authored over 50 scientific abstracts and publications principally in the Cardiology literature. Dr. Albert has lectured at the Entrepreneurship programs at the MIT Sloan School and the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Albert graduated with Honors from Harvard College and from Duke University Medical School.
Vic Gundotra :: Chief Executive Officer
Vic brings more than 20 years of consumer and engineering management experience from some of the most successful technology companies in the world.
For more than 8 years Vic was at Google where he most recently served as Senior Vice President from 2011 until April 2014, heading up the company’s social initiatives, including Photos, Hangouts, and Google+. Vic joined Google in 2007 as vice president of engineering, where he was responsible for mobile application development, including product management and marketing. These included developing mobile versions of YouTube, Gmail, Maps, and Search. He also led the company’s developer evangelism and application development efforts and launched Google I/O.
Prior to Google, Vic spent 15 years at Microsoft, where he worked on a variety of products and operating systems, including Windows 3.0, NT, Windows XP, and Vista. He was recognized by MIT as a “Young Innovator under 35” for his work in sparking Microsoft’s change from Win32 to the .NET programming model. More recently, Vic was general manager of Microsoft’s developer outreach efforts worldwide, including evangelism and strategy for products like Windows Vista, Visual Studio, Microsoft Office, Microsoft CRM and Windows Mobile.
Vic holds several patents in the area of distributed computing and identity-based access to cloud resources.
Doug Biehn :: Chief Commercial Officer
Doug brings more than 15 years of marketing and commercial experience to AliveCor.
Doug served as Vice President of Connected Care and Patient Engagement at Relay Health where he was responsible for driving double-digit growth within the digital health business while overseeing product strategy, development and go-to-market activities across the customer experience. While at Relay Health he also developed new organizational capabilities to help scale the business, revitalized the patient engagement product line and built a high performing team.
Prior to RelayHealth, Biehn served as the Chief Marketing Officer at Blue Shield of California. Under his leadership, Blue Shield transformed its marketing capabilities to reposition the brand for profitable growth. During his tenure Doug enabled Blue Shield to become one of the fastest growing healthcare companies, launching a number of successful market innovations and building a world class marketing team recognized with numerous marketing excellence awards.
Biehn earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing from San Francisco State University, a Strategic Finance Certificate from University of California Berkeley, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco.
Frank Petterson :: Vice President of Engineering
Frank brings 15 years of engineering experience to AliveCor.
Frank served as the lead Engineer at Google responsible for YouTube Live and Gaming. During his time he built a successful team and delivered YouTube’s live streaming and gaming products on iOS, Android, web and consoles. While at Google he was also the lead engineer for Hangouts messaging, and the Google+ iOS app.
Prior to Google, Petterson was the Production Technology Supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic where he was responsible for the design and development of simulation software for visual effects such as water, explosions and fracture. His work has been used in nine feature films, which include, Avatar, Star Trek, Transformers and Harry Potter franchises.
Petterson earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Rice University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University. Petterson is an Academy Award winner for his work on the Industrial Light & Magic fluid simulation system. Petterson is the author of numerous publications and holds 10 issued patents.
Simon Prakash :: Vice President, Products & Design
Simon brings more than 20 years of experience in product hardware design and development.
Simon most recently served as the Senior Director of Product Hardware Development at Google where he led the design and development of the current and future versions of Google Glass as well as defining other future products. During his tenure at Google he was responsible for product development, technology pathfinding, and started the reliability, battery, safety and quality teams within Google.
Prior to Google, Simon was a Senior Director of Product Integrity in the Hardware design group at Apple for almost nine years and was directly involved in developing the first iPhone, iPad, and many industry-leading laptops and desktops. Simon has also worked in the optics industry developing the first 1300 nm VCSEL for telecom use.
Prakash earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University, and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Colorado. He has served and presented on a number of IEEE and ASME conferences including component packaging, thermal design and reliability.
